Olarra Gran Reserva Rioja, 1970

This wine is 55 years old, and the ullage is low shoulder. I had low expectations which were quickly demolished. This is a great wine!

Bright and color with an inch or more of bricking around the edges. No sign of oxidation! Clean and bright smells and flavors. Black fruits, ripe and lovely. Lifted bouquet of mint and aromatic spices. The texture is what amazes me the most: silky smooth, as light and as powerful as a fine Pinot Noir. Fabulous finish.
